Generative AI Policy

High Trestle Press is committed to publishing, selling and highlighting content produced by real, live human beings. We reject the notion that creativity and talent can be reduced to an algorithm, and buck against the insidious implication that artists somehow hoard their talent, acting as gatekeepers.

High Trestle Press does not permit the use of generative AI in the creation of any products published and sold under our banner. Every word published came directly from a human mind through a human finger. We use live editors; not Grammarly. We use live artists; not Midjourney. All High Trestle Press creative contractors are required to sign a declaration that their work was created without the use of generative AI.

Generative AI is becoming more difficult to avoid as it becomes more deeply integrated inside industry-standard software. We do use software like Canva and Adobe Photoshop to produce company and marketing materials, but we try to keep our books airgapped from any software that occupies this gray space. All manuscripts are drafted using bare word processing software. We do not use grammar or spellcheck and rely on human editors to perfect our galley proofs. We apply these same standards to cover and interior artwork.
